Did you know there was once an airplane factory in San Martin, California?  While it's not exactly an operation that threatened to put Boeing out of business, the "factory" is the Garratt Estate's backyard workshop at 1850 Maple Avenue in San Martin 95046.  It was at this location that Mansfield "Gary" Garratt built a Lancair 4P that would give any prop or jetbuilder a run for their money.  The state of the art shop measures in at 5000 square feet & is equipped with all the bells and whistles.  Featuring 110-220-440 three phase power, Tungsten lighting, an operational bridge crane, drive through bay doors for tractor trailer deliveries, compressed air hookups throughout, and even insulation & heating for those late winter nights when you just can't call it quits.  Gary finished building his Lancair 4P in the 1850 Maple Avenue workshop several years ago, and I'm told by Gary's son Tyler that his dad's dream plane has hit speeds of over 320 knots (that's 370 MPH for you passengers!)  Wow.....very impressive & definitely something to brag about in this sleepy little south county town.
